Biography
Greetings, nice to know you here. Now is the time to show you my stuff, so that you can get to know my work and my background better! To describe my occupations in one stroke, I decided to adopt the term "multidisciplinary artist", even if I pitched widely towards painting, humor and media entertainment. Until today, I have experimented with radio, web content creation, television, painting, song and writing.
Videos, TV and web entertainment
I collaborated as a columnist-videographer on the program “L'heure est Grave” broadcast on Télé-Québec in 2018 and 2019
In 2017, I gave birth to a web series: Doc Canada, broadcast on Tou.tv, produced by Blimp TV and MF Fois 2. It received a nomination for best youth web series at Numix and three nominations for the Prix Gémeaux: animation, production and youth web show. It was ranked in the top 5 of the best Quebec web series of 2017 by the program "C'est Juste du web".
From September 2015 to May 2016, I collaborated as a videographer at Bazzomag, which won the Gémeaux for the best digital publication.
In the summer of 2015 I became interested in compulsive accumulation. I carried out with Sébastien Johnson a project combining visual art, interviews, videos in the field, vlogging and poetry. All my interventions can be found on the "Gardage" page in «project» section of this site. This eclectic and interactive project inspired Pierre-Yves McSween when writing his popular book "Do you really need it?".
I was an actor in the documentary series "Le Sexe selon les sexes" broadcast at Moi & Cie in 2014.
From January 2014 to March 2015, I delivered a weekly column on Musique Plus and Vtélé, on the program Buzz. I embodied various characters, including the virulent political columnist Caporal Torrieu, the poet Serge Fioritures and Buzzméralda who take calls and read the future of spectators. I also did live painting, sketches, absurd talks and clip parodies (like The Province of Confusion and Winterball, which garnered over a million views when it was posted on Youtube. ).
In 2013 and 2014, I recorded videos for trouble.voir. Two productions on this site drew attention: The portrait of Quebec and 30 minutes of porn with Mathieu St-Onge, vlog which earned me a funny media tour to talk about addiction to pornography.
I regularly updated my youtube channel from 2011 to 2013. My first video posted online has become a classic of the web and the Quebec metalworkers community "Standing at the Gates of the Promenade Ontario". During these years rich in creation and movement, I would mention three creations that stand out from the crowd: facebook status about colds sung on a Slayer song, Québec Solidaire chanson sexy and Bricolons with Madame Coucoune, video which won the jury's grand prize at the Festival «Court mais Trash» in Switzerland and which was broadcast on Fantasia and Spasm in Montreal. During this period, I created and collaborated on more than a hundred vlogs and videos. Now, it totalize around 6,000,000 views on the web.
Painting and visual art
Since 2011, I have produced more than 600 two-dimensional works; canvas painting and drawings. I exhibited at the Atelier Arts Tous Directions in St-Hyacinthe, at the bar Les Katacombes during the Zoofest, at the Frigo des Dieux and at the Galerie des Soeurs. I held my first exhibition, “Virality and Incan-decency” at Galerie 203 in 2014 and a second solo exhibition “Un peintre bien peinard” at MaBrasserie, in Montreal, from November 2017 to February 2018. Two of my works have were selected for the exhibition of engaged art by Infoman, the Jean-Tal Gallery, in 2018 and in 2019. I was a reporter-exhibitor for the International Biennial of miniature art in Témiscamingue in summer 2018. I also participate each year at the auction of ALPABEM, an organization that works for mental well-being. My most recent exhibition took place directly at my home in the spring of 2019. Entitled “Skinning Yours, the Great Spring Sale at St-Onge”, it attracted a hundred people in three days and allowed visitors to tour my workshop and discuss intimately with me, having the chance to get a work at a reduced price!
All my creations can be found in the "visual art" section of my site. I am quite versatile, going from the abstract to the figurative, from realism to expressionism passing by more naive features on occasion. Right now I am making custom orders, I have started to make some metamorphoses to my Néant / Lumières series and I wish to experiment with new mediums to expose even more fragmented and ambitious ideas.
During the year 2019, I started to do live on Twitch, set up a Patreon page, and offering hand-touched prints of my works in giclee print on cold press paper, as well as prints on framed canvas.
I could cite several influences ... we see so many incredible works thanks to sharing on the web these days, but I definitely have a marked admiration for the work and the career of Marina Abramovic.
Radio
My radio adventure started in 2005 when I met Luc Archambault who was studying visual arts and animated at CHOQ.FM at UQAM. We decided to team up to innovate in humor on the radio, an area little exploited by emerging comedians. We also wanted to explore the limits of this medium.
We hosted 75 original episodes of the weekly humor show "Vidons-la don 'la question!". It was broadcast on CHOQ.FM, CISM and CIBL in Montreal, as well as on a dozen other community stations in the Francophonie, in Canada and in Europe. We then presented capsules and chronicles on Radio-Canada's Première Chaîne, on the programs "Vous Êtes Ici" and "La Tête Ailleurs".
We have been nominated three times at the Gala les Olivier for best humorous capsule and best radio program in 2008 and 2009.
During this course, we presented some shows in bars and had the chance to share the stage with MC Gilles and Martin Roussy. We created an audio guide for UQAM in 2007, interviewed around 40 emerging comedians for the Sirius channel, hosted SMIM in 2009 and GAMIQ in 2010. We also composed the song “Tout l'monde aime Xavier Dolan ”with guitarist Dominic Ostiguy.
Our collaboration ended in 2011, but I return from time to time behind the microphone at Ici Radio-Canada as occasional columnist for the programs "Medium Large" and "On Dira ce qu'on voudra". I discussed about sexual education, ASMR, as well as a discussion on the art of Jim Carey.
And besides that...
I was born in 1981, I live in Montreal in the Rosemont district, I am the proud father of a five year old boy.
I studies in visual art in Cegep and communication and politics at Montreal University. Before I could devote myself full-time to artistic creation and the media, I had several jobs often very rewarding on the human level: animator in a CHLSD, I worked in a respite service for autistic people, telephone pollster and call center supervisor, intern for the Foundation Rivière, customer service agent in various businesses, census agent for Statistics Canada ... I was even a crowd leader for CKOI, for one summer!
In the coming years, I hope to be able to continue to create, whether by developing ideas for differents medias, or by pushing my techniques and my approach in visual art further. I also wrote a play that I would like to stage. I also cherish the idea of writing a collection of novel! We will see what the future holds for me!
